Colonel Alan M. Haedge serves as the Chief of the Cyberspace and Electromagnetic Warfare Division on the Joint Staff, located at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. In this role, he provides military advice to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of War on matters pertaining to cyberspace operations and electromagnetic warfare. He is responsible for the oversight and synchronization of cyberspace effects and electromagnetic spectrum operations across eleven Combatant Commands and six Services, including the Coast Guard. Furthermore, Colonel Haedge contributes to the development and refinement of authorities, strategy, and policy through sustained engagement with the Office of the Secretary of War, members of Congress and their staffs, and the National Security Council. His efforts are instrumental in advancing integrated multi-domain operations and enhancing the lethality and resilience of the Joint Force. Colonel Haedge’s diverse career has included assignments in tactical warfighter communications, air operations center systems and planning, traditional base communications and cybersecurity, defensive cyber operations, and offensive cyber operations. He has also been a squadron commander twice and served as the United States Space Force Staff Cyberspace Career Field Manager, where he was responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of cyberspace operations personnel across the Service. During his command at the 341st Communications Squadron, Colonel Haedge led a total force team charged with the planning, execution, and sustainment of critical information systems, telecommunications infrastructure, defensive cyberspace operations, and network and electronic security. His unit provided direct support to over 4,000 personnel across 13,800 square miles in execution of a $17 billion nuclear deterrence mission while establishing a Cyber Mission Defense Team specifically aligned to support and defend Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) operations. During Colonel Haedge’s tenure, his squadron was named the best small communication squadron the Air Force by earning the Gen Rawlings Award. He has deployed twice to Southwest Asia in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, and once to the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) area of responsibility in support of United States Secret Service operations and Presidential security.
Colonel Haedge was born and raised in Arlington, Texas. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1999 and subsequently attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he earned his commission in 2003. He hails from a distinguished military family: his father served as a Signal Officer during the Vietnam War, his eldest brother served in the United States Army, and his middle brother, also a graduate of the Air Force Academy, served as a Communications and Information Officer in the United States Air Force. Colonel Haedge is the proud father of two children, a son, Michael, and a daughter, Roan.
