Brig. Gen. Joed I. Carbonell-López is the Commander, 175th Wing, Maryland Air National Guard. In this role Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López leads more than 1,400 personnel across 3 operations groups, 1 mission support group, 1 medical group, and 1 civil engineering element. He oversees a budget in excess of $46 million in addition to over $37 million in base infrastructure and real property.
Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López received his commission in 2000 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Maryland. A career cyberspace operations and intelligence officer, he has conducted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels of war throughout the Central and Special Operations Command areas of responsibility and cyberspace operations as part of the Cyber National Mission Force. Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López has commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels and his staff assignments include service at the National Security Agency, U.S. Special Operations Command, the National Guard Bureau, and the Cyber National Mission Force. He has deployed in support of U.S. and Coalition operations in the Middle East for Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM and is a joint qualified officer.
Before returning to active duty, Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López served within the National Security Agency as a civilian. He served as a division chief and technical director, led two major programs for the Director of the National Security Agency and Director of National Intelligence, and deployed as the agency’s technical director. Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López served as the Director of Operations, Cyber National Mission Force, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort George G. Meade, MD. Prior to his current position, Brig. Gen. Carbonell-López served as the Commander of the 179th Cyberspace Operations Group, Mansfield ANGB, Ohio.
