Jonathan Farrow read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick. During this time, he was an active member of the University of Birmingham Air Squadron. He joined the RAF in 1995 and completed Navigator training for which he was awarded the prestigious Sutton Sword of Honor.

Posted to the Tornado F3 he undertook numerous overseas operational deployments policing the Iraq Southern No-Fly-Zone and NATO’s Eastern Flank. A Qualified Weapons Instructor he commanded the Tornado F3 Weapons School then the Tornado F3 Flt in the Falkland Islands. Posted to HQ AIR, he was responsible for ensuring AIR and cross government support to the UK AIR Counter Terrorism Mission; he also delivered staff support to Operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. He was selected to be the first RAF officer to work on the Olympic London 2012 Security Project and completed a 12-month detachment working as the Air advisor to the Senior National Coordinator, New Scotland Yard within the Home Office.

He completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Ecole de Guerre in Paris before being posted to the French Air Operations Command in Paris/Lyon as the Royal Air Force Liaison Officer. During this period, he supported a diverse number of Bi/Tri-lateral Operations within the Sahel, North Africa and the Levant; he was awarded membership of the Order of the British Empire for his efforts. He completed an Operational tour overseas as the UK Task Force Regional Air Cdr, directing all UK Task Force Air Operations in both the Middle East and Southern Mediterranean. He then commanded Number 14 (ISR) Squadron operating the Shadow R1 supporting numerous UK Task Force operations overseas. In total he has amassed almost 3000 hours flying of which over 2500 are on Fast Jets. He was then posted back to Paris as the Senior RAF Liaison Officer in France working within the French Air and Space Force central staffs where he was respon-sible for managing the Royal Air Force, Armée de l’Air et de l’Espace strategic relationship on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff. He was awarded a Chief of Air Staff Fellowship and completed a Masters in Space Studies at the International Space University in Strasbourg. As part of this master’s, he also undertook a 6-month secondment with Airbus Defence and Space at various industrial sites across Europe. His work focused on developing Protect and Defend CONOPs for UK Sovereign space assets, Small Satellite Earth Observation acquisition and Foreign Export, Integrated Campaign Team activity. His current appointment is that of Deputy Director, Strategy, Futures, Partnerships and Requirements within the US Space Force HQ, Washington DC.
