Colonel Bonner is the Deputy Director, Task Force – Futures. He helps lead a small team of personnel supporting the Space Force’s existing futures enterprise with actions required to design the force needed to continually keep the Space Force ahead of threats and strategic rivals in, to and from space. Col. Bonner received his commission in the Air Force in 1997 through a 4-year ROTC scholarship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and transferred to the Space Force in October 2022.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and has led acquisition and operations of major test facilities as a senior materiel leader and group commander. He has commanded space operations at the squadron and delta levels. Col. Bonner led a 500-member a space operations squadron conducting around-the-clock command, control, and communications operations for space systems valued in excess of 20 billion dollars while assigned to the National Reconnaissance Office. He also served as a division chief assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon where he helped develop Air Force strategy and operating concepts.
Additionally, he was the inaugural commander of the 804th Test Group where he led nearly 2,000 people in development, sustainment, and operations of more than 35 test facilities across locations in five states. Prior to his current assignment, Col. Bonner was commander of Space Delta 12, a 500-member unit responsible for leading integrated test and evaluation of nearly every weapon system in the Space Force’s inventory.
