COL Pete Atkinson is the Space Division Chief with the G-3/5/7 Strategic Operations Directorate at the Headquarters, Department of the Army.

Commissioned an Infantry Officer, COL Atkinson began his active-duty career serving with the 10th Mountain Division. Upon completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course, he served with 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Special Operations Command - Central, and the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. Upon completion of the U.S. Army Space Operations Qualification Course, COL Atkinson served with the United States Space Command then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Security Studies Program as an Army War College Fellow.

COL Atkinson earned a Master of Arts in Global and International Studies from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Certificate in Ethnic Studies from Florida Atlantic University. He is an Army War College, Joint Forces Staff College, and Command and General Staff College graduate. He completed the Joint Special Operations University’s Faculty Development Course, Harvard Manage Mentor Program, and is a Certified Higher Education Professional with a concentration in teaching. COL Atkinson is a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of America, Association of the United States Army, Special Forces Association, and the Army Space Professionals Association.
