Description

The AFCEA NOVA Education Committee's Reverse Mentoring Program (ReMP) helps AFCEA member companies attract, develop, and retain multigenerational workers. With five generations present in almost every work environment, HR and business leaders are challenged to keep their diverse workforces engaged, compensated, and incentivized. This program will provide an opportunity for member companies to participate in a unique experience designed to leverage mentorship to explore the elements that increase job satisfaction and organizational commitment, improving employee retention. We are looking for AFCEA member companies challenged with managing a multigenerational workforce comprised of older (i.e., Traditionalists and Baby Boomers—workers born in 1964 or earlier) and younger (i.e., Generations X, Y, and Z—workers born in 1965 or later) workers.

All mentoring interactions for this program will take place on Lattitude -- a savvy closed platform for scheduling, hosting, and tracking engagement.

WHAT IS REVERSE MENTORING?
Reverse mentoring is a workplace mentoring relationship between a senior manager (the protégé in the relationship) and a junior employee (the mentor in the relationship) to facilitate learning and development. Research has shown that in addition to promoting relationship building, knowledge transfer, and professional development, Reverse Mentoring improves employee engagement and reduces job plateauing in older workers. Also, Reverse Mentoring fosters intellectual stimulation for younger workers, allowing these emerging leaders to understand their organizations better while engaging in meaningful work. Ultimately Reverse Mentoring improves employee retention, improving the culture and competitiveness of the enterprise.

HOW DOES THE AFCEA NOVA REMP PROGRAM WORK?
AFCEA partner companies will select an equal number of older and younger workers to participate in the program(3-10 pairs). Then the older protégés (Traditionalists and Baby Boomers) will be matched with younger mentors (Generations X, Y, and Z) based on their complementary work experience, academic background, and interests. At program kick-off, the participants will take a quantitative survey to measure their job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and intent to stay. The mentoring relationship will last for ten (10) weeks using Lattitude. The ReMP participants will re-take the quantitative survey at the program's culmination. The results will be calculated, and the changes in job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and intent to stay of the participants will be analyzed and presented to AFCEA NOVA sponsor companies during a program debrief.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE REVERSE MENTORING RELATIONSHIP?
Protégés will formulate a business challenge around one of their topics of interest. The mentor will help the protégé solve this business challenge during the ten (10) week program, while participating in one-on-one reverse mentoring sessions, SAFe-styled sprints, and change management workshops to reinforce new learning. The Reverse Mentoring pairs will use Lattitude to facilitate and track interactions, take notes, actions, and outcomes, and document success stories. The AFCEA NOVA ReMP Lead and the Lattitude Lead will also use Lattitude to track engagements to ensure program success.
