Captain Joshua J. Sanders received his commission through the NROTC program at Savannah State University in 1999, where he graduated with a BS in Mathematics. He holds an MBA from Chaminade University of Honolulu, a Master’s of Science in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Doctorate in Public Administration from Capella University.

Capt. Sanders commanded the Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Bahrain, where he served as Commander, Task Group 1050.2 supporting U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. 5th Fleet operations. In major command, he supported U.S. Pacific Fleet and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command as the first CO of Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) PACIFIC/CTF 1070, formerly NIOC HAWAII.

Capt. Sanders staff and operational assignments include Fleet Cyber Command, and U.S. Tenth Fleet., OPNAV Staff as the Cyber Action Officer for the 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review, and the Cryptologic Resource Coordinator (CRC) for Carrier Strike Group Ten aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).

His tours include a variety of other Information Warfare assignments. At Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Kunia Hawaii, he served as an Operations Watch Officer and Senior Watch Officer. He served at Naval Cyber Warfare Development Group (NCWDG) where he earned the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act Level 2 Acquisition Qualification. At Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command (NCDOC) he served as the Operations Officer.

His joint assignments include U.S. Strategic Command’s Joint Functional Component Command, Network Warfare, as a Senior Battle Watch Captain, Training Officer, Operational Planning Team Lead, and as the Computer Network Operations Liaison to Multi-National Corps-Iraq in Baghdad. On the Joint Staff he served as the Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division Deputy Division Chief for the J39 Deputy Director Global Operations; and as the Division Chief for the Information Integration Division, formally Cyber Policy, Joint Staff J5 Strategy, Plans and Policy. He served as the first Deputy Commander for Joint Task Force Cyber for Joint Force Headquarters Cyber - Navy.

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Joint Service Achievement Medal.
