Colonel Angell was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and raised in Winsted, Connecticut. He was commissioned from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1997. After completing The Basic School, he was trained as a Logistics Officer.
Throughout his career, Colonel Angell has served in the Fleet Marine Force within the Ground Combat Element, Logistics Combat Element, and Aviation Combat Element and completed seven deployments.
Within the Fleet Marine Force, he was first assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment and served as the Maintenance Management Officer and Motor Transport Officer. During this assignment he deployed with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Colonel Angell was assigned as the Headquarters and Service Company Commander and Squadron Logistics Officer for Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 373. During this assignment, he deployed twice to Iraq, with MWSS 373 and then with Marine Wing Support Group 37, as Assistant Operations Officer. Colonel Angell was assigned to 2d Marine Logistics Group (MLG) as the Plans Officer, where he completed two deployments to Afghanistan as Plans Officer for 2d MLG (Forward), and then as Operations Officer for Combat Logistics Regiment 2. Colonel Angell commanded MWSS 372 and deployed the unit as part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, Crisis Response in Central Command.
Serving outside of the Fleet Marine Force, Colonel Angell was assigned as the Executive Officer for Headquarters and Service Company, Marine Corps Forces, Atlantic (MARFORLANT) followed by an assignment as the Assistant Operations Officer within the MARFORLANT G4. He deployed to support US European Command as a Joint Planning and Execution System specialist in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Colonel Angell served as a Faculty Advisor and then the Academic Plans Officer at the Expeditionary Warfare School. He completed a joint assignment with the Joint Staff, Logistics Directorate as the Plans Branch Chief. Colonel Angell served as the Director, Weapon System Management Center, Marine Corps Logistics Command focused on enterprise lifecycle equipment sustainment. At the Colonel level, Colonel Angell commanded the Marine Corps Logistics Operations Group focused on training and education of logistics at the tactical and operational levels of war. His most recent assignment was as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commandant of the Marine Corps for Installations and Logistics.
Colonel Angell’s military education includes the Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, School of Advanced Warfighting, and the Naval War College. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering, a Master of Arts Degree in Operational Studies, and Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. Colonel Angell is married with three daughters.
