Leading a cultural and technical revolution in how the Department of Defense (DoD) develops and delivers software, Ana Kreiensieck serves as the Software Modernization Lead for the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Information Enterprise, Cloud and Software Modernization (CSM) Directorate. In this role, she is spearheading the implementation of the DoD Software Modernization Strategy, collaborating with other DoD Components, industry, and academia to advance the adoption of modern software practices like Agile and DevSecOps.

Prior to her current role, she worked for Booz Allen Hamilton where she enjoyed a variety of projects related to enterprise architecture and software modernization. As a contractor, she joined the CSM Directorate and contributed to the foundation of the DoD’s software modernization efforts. Her contributions included work on the 2019 Defense Innovation Board Software Acquisition and Practices Report, “Software is Never Done”, the DoD Software Modernization Strategy itself, and the FY23-24 DoD Software Modernization Implementation Plan.

A 25-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, after graduating from the U. S. Naval Academy, she specialized in IT and communications rising to the rank of Commander. Her distinguished service included assignments as the Communications Officer (N6) at Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing ONE/Commander Task Force 72/57 in Kami Seya, Japan; Executive Officer at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Washington DC; Assistant Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Combat Systems, and Information (C5I) Department Head and qualified Tactical Action Officer on USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), fleeting up to C5I Department Head. Her final assignments were with the office of the Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer and the Joint Staff J6. She earned the Information Dominance Corps warfare pin. Her Navy awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award) and various unit awards.

Ana Kreiensieck holds an M.S. in Software Engineering from George Mason University, an M.A. in National Strategy and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, an M.A. in Adult Education from University of Rhode Island, a B.S. in English from the U.S. Naval Academy, and a CIO Certificate from the National Defense University.
