Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Drew Thomson graduated with Honors from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996. Drew served in USS GARY (FFG 51) as Auxiliaries Officer and as Combat Information Center Officer in USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52). Asa Department Head, he was as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USSPINCKNEY (DDG 91). Upon completion of his Department Head assignment, CAPT Thomson reported to the staff Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN, embarked in USS NIMITZ(CVN 68), where he served as Surface Strike Officer. CAPT Thomson served as Executive Officer in USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53). In June 2013, he assumed command of JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) and guided her through the installation and test of AEGIS Baseline 9C and a subsequent homeport change to Pearl Harbor, HI.His shore assignments included Afloat Training Group, Pacific as a cruise missile assessor, Aide to the Program Director, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (PD-452), PEOIWS 1 (AEGIS Integrated Combat Systems) Program Office as the Principal Assistant Program Manager for AEGIS Development and Major Program Manager Small Surface Combatant, Integrated Combat Systems (IWS 8.0). As IWS 8.0, Drew was accountabl efor the design, development, integration, procurement, installation, testing, certification and sustainment of LCS, FFG(X), and Large USV integrated Combat Systems.In November 2019, he assumed command of PEO IWS 6.0, the Command and Control Directorate. IWS 6.0 develops, tests, delivers and sustains the Navy’s surfac eand submarine navigation systems and is the program office responsible for the Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC).After retirement from the US Navy, Drew joined Anduril Industries as a Director for Growth and Development.
