Colt Whittall serves as Chief Experience Officer (CXO) for the Department of the Air Force. This is the first such position in the Department of Defense and one of only a few in the Federal Government. This role was created to improve warfighter effectiveness of IT systems.
Key initiatives include launching a “Voice of the Customer” program for Enterprise IT called the “AF IT Pulse,” launching Digital Experience Monitoring to track User Experience across the Air Force, instilling User Centered Design in the Air Force’s Software Factories and programs, adding UX professionals to software teams and equipping them with leading tools, leading efforts to improve UX of enterprise IT (ROLE-IT), finding cost savings to re-purpose toward UX improvement and launching programs to automate key user journeys such as In/Out Processing.
Previously Mr. Whittall served as Vice President in the healthcare and federal practices at Isobar, a consulting firm focused on digital experience design and development. In this capacity Mr. Whittall advised senior executives of client organizations with respect to digital strategy, digital experience design, digital product design and management, and software development. He also served as a senior subject matter expert in several areas including digital strategy, change leadership, digital health and wellness, and integrating behavioral economics into experience design. Within Isobar he played a senior role in recruiting and professional development, creating new products and services, and business development.
Mr. Whittall also advises organizations regarding User Experience and Customer Experience, to include serving on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech HCI Masters program. He is an active angel investor with Atlanta Technology Angels, focusing on companies with innovative approaches to UX, CX and digital marketing. He is an avid conservationist and chairs a committee in suburban Atlanta which manages the city’s $25M green space bond. These efforts have preserved 406 acres of land for trails, watershed and other passive uses. Mr. Whittall holds an MBA and an MS in Telecommunications (University of Colorado) and is a Certified Customer Experience Professional (CCXP). In his spare time Mr. Whittall enjoys boating, skiing, wake surfing, traveling and facilitating a book club with his wife Amy.
