Chris Hoffmeister is a criminal analyst and financial crimes expert with over 17 years of U.S. federal law enforcement, investigations, and intelligence experience. He is currently with Homeland Security Investigations in Williston, Vermont, at the National Bulk Cash Smuggling Center. He oversees the center’s Cryptocurrency Intelligence Program, under which he conducts investigative research in virtual currency and blockchain forensics; applications of the U.S. Criminal Code and Bank Secrecy Act to cryptocurrency investigations; and intelligence exploitation of the deep web and darknet markets. His previous work at the center concentrated on cross-border financial crimes and money laundering; currency smuggling; risk assessment; and statistical methods related to cash courier targeting and suspicious financial transactions.

Prior to opening the center in 2009, Chris worked in counter terrorism, passenger screening, and cargo security at U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Washington, D.C.
