Col Urbina currently serves as Director, Command Element – Information Warfare Division, Capabilities Development Directorate, Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration, Headquarters, Marine Corps.
Col Urbina graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1993. Upon completion of initial schooling, Col Urbina reported to 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. In 1995, Col Urbina was assigned as the Communications Officer, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company and 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division. In 1998, Col Urbina was assigned as Communications and Brigade Advisor to the Royal Saudi Marine Forces, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Upon redeployment, he attended the Marine Corps Command and Control Systems Course.
In 2000, Col Urbina was assigned as the Marine Corps Information Assurance Advocate at the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, MD. Concurrently, he served as the Executive Officer, Company B, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion. In 2002, Col Urbina was transferred to 2d Marine Logistics Group, where he served as Commanding Officer, Communication Company, deploying the company to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. After relinquishing command, Col Urbina served as Executive Officer, Headquarters and Service Battalion. In 2004, he was assigned as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-6, 2d MLG and subsequently as AC/S G-6, 2d MLG (Fwd), deploying to Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Upon redeployment, he attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
In 2006, Col Urbina reported to U.S. Special Operations Command, where he served as J65 Contingency Operations Officer and as J6 Operations Officer/J63 Division Chief. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 in support of a Joint Special Operations Task Force. In 2009, Col Urbina reported to III Marine Expeditionary Force where he served as G-6 Operations Officer. From 2010 to 2012, Col Urbina served as Commanding Officer, 7th Communication Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. In 2012-2013, he attended National Defense University’s College of International Security Affairs. From 2013 to 2016, Col Urbina served as Presidential Communications Program Manager, White House Military Office, Washington, DC. From 2016 to 2018, Col Urbina served as Commanding Officer, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division (Rein). In July 2018, Col Urbina reported to C4 Division, Deputy Commandant for Information, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps where he served as Chief, Networks Plans and Policy Division and Operations Branch Head. In July 2020, Col Urbina reported to the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.
Col Urbina holds a Master of Arts in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University (with Honors) and a Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from National Defense University (Distinguished Graduate).
